Day 4 weigh in and thoughts

SW: 142
CW: 138

Total weight loss: 4 lbs

On day 3, I did eat solid food for supper. I was so light headed, that I just couldn't take it anymore. I'M WEAK, WHAT CAN I SAY!!!!!!! Anyway, I'm pretty proud of myself for doing it for almost 3 full days. I've decided to do a modified version now to continue being healthy and losE a few more pounds. I'll juice for 1-2 meals a day, preferably 2 meals and then eat a healthy solid meal.

Review of detox:

Cons:
- COLD!! I was so cold all the time from only drinking cold juice.
- Light headed. I'm sure not everyone gets this. I have very low blood pressure, so it doesn't take much to affect me.
- Nightmares. This is a side effect from a diet very low in fat. Not fun.
- Headache. This was more from lack of caffeine than the detox. I would recommend weaning yourself off of caffeine before doing this detox.

Pros:
- I just *felt* healthy. It was nice knowing that I was making my body/cells happy by giving them what they wanted. I plan to juice for life now. Once I lose the last few pounds, I plan to juice once a day to make sure I'm getting in all my veggies for the day.
- My skin looked awesome. It was almost instant that I noticed it. It wasn't dry at all! My hands are normally scaly and red this time of year, but they were so hydrated with the detox.
- Weight loss. I can't really ignore this pro, even though it shouldn't be a main factor when doing a detox.
- Energy. Despite being on a detox, I didn't feel in a fog or super tired. I was tired, but that's due to factors like my lovely children waking up at 5am :)

Benn's day 3 weigh in.

SW: 219
CW: 113

Total loss: 6 lbs

Benn said since I'm not doing the full fasting anymore, he's not either. lol. He'll be doing a modified juicing, like me. Breakfast/lunch- juice, dinner- healthy meal. He has 13 more pounds he'd like to lose. I'll have to talk to him about the juices he's been making and write down the recipes he's liked. He made one with radishes yesterday that I know he liked a lot. He and I have very different likes when it comes to vegetables.

Day 3 weigh in and thoughts

SW: 142
CW: 138.4

Total loss: 3.6 lbs

This detox is making me nuts! I'm so hungry and by the end of the day I can't even stomach the thought of drinking more juice. It's also making me super dizzy. I think I'm going to be done with the juice fast after today and then after that do 2 meals of juice and one solid food meal a day. I'm enjoying the fact that I'm giving my body and fruit and veggies it craves, so I'd like to keep doing that. I've always had very low blood pressure, a this just isn't helping. Since my primary reason for doing the fast was to cleanse/detox, 3 full days are sufficient. Most info that I've read said 1-3 days are perfect to detox and anything longer is more for weight loss.

Here are Husband's stats after day 1.

SW: 219
CW: 213.8

Total loss: 5.2 lbs

He is doing well on the juice fast after 1 day. He's hoping to make it the full 10 days, if not longer.

Day 2 weigh in and thoughts

SW (starting weight): 142
CW (current weight): 139.2

Total weight loss: 2.8 lbs

While weight loss isn't my main goal for this fast, I am going to track it. I'll probably gain some, if not all of it back when I go off the fast.

Yesterday (day 1) was harder than I expected it to be. It was fine until after supper. I started to get a bad headache and my cravings were super strong. I normally drink at least 1 diet coke, so I'm guessing that was the main reason for the headache. I woke up this morning with an even worse headache and a sore throat. Hopefully I'm not getting sick! My head is already feeling a little better with some meds and another juice.

My main concern for today is work later tonight. I work 5-11pm. Hopefully I can stay strong when 9pm rolls around and I start to get hungry.

Day 1

Starting Weight: 142 lbs

Today was day 1 of 10 of my juice fast. Husband will start tomorrow and I will also update on how he feels and his weight loss as the days go on.

First off, we're using a Breville Juice Fountain Multi Speed. So far, it's awesome! Here's a pic of all the produce I bought today. I'm fairly certain the cashier thought I was nuts!

Juice #1: Mean Green. I halved the recipe.

-3 Kale stocks
-2 celery stocks
-1 cucumber
-2 green apple
-1/2 lemon
- ginger

Review: I liked this one a lot. The apple and lemon really help to dull the taste of the vegetables. This will probably become one I'll make each day.

Juice #2: Remembering your ABCs I added lemon to mine and doubled the recipe.
-2 apples
-4 carrots
-2 beets
-1/2 lemon

Review: This one was very 'earthy.' I'm not a fan of beets, so I knew I wouldn't really like it. It was bearable though, as the apple and lemon help. I'd like to find a different recipe that uses beets.

Juice #3: Original V-8

-1/2 green pepper
-2 carrots
-3 celery stalks
-1/2 cucumber
-2 handfuls parsley
-1 handful spinach
-3 tomatoes

Review: This one was not for me! I'm not a fan of raw tomatoes, so I was a little unsure of even trying this one. I might try it again adding an apple and taking out 1 tomato.

Juice #4: Citrus Pineapple. This is my own creation. *I made this and thought I'd drink it when the boys went to bed, but by that time I had a massive headache and couldn't even think about drinking it.

-1/2 grapfruit
-1 naval orange
-1 cup pineapple

Time for a change!

Husband and I have always been interested in being healthier, especially for our children. It's definitely easier said than done, though. Especially, in the world we live in now. While fresh food and gyms are readily available, it's hard to fit into our lives and fresh food CAN be expensive. We recently watched a couple documentaries that have greatly influenced us to make a change for the better. Hungry for Change and Fat,  Sick, and Nearly Dead are two documentaries I highly recommend.

Our first step in a new healthy life is a juicing fast for 10 days. After that we're going to eat as raw/whole as we can. It's going to be a big change for us, and an even bigger one for our children. We're definitely going to modify it for our children in the beginning. Obviously, they're not doing the juicing fast with us ;)

I have lost 35 lbs since July 2012, and would like to lose about 12 more. Although, this isn't my main goal of the juicing and new healthy lifestyle. I lost the weight eating mainly healthy foods, but I would also eat a lot of sugar and processed foods. I would just count calories to lose weight.

Join us to a healthier life!!
